Poker Pros Step by step overview of the 2005 WSOP

4:47 p.m. Button is in poker pro seat 4. Blinds are $50K/$100K. The antes are $10K. Defending champion Greg “Fossilman” Raymer made the announcement, “Shuffle up and deal!” Cards in the air.

4:55 p.m. All-in with Michael (Mike) Matusow’s K-K vs. Scott Lazar’s A-A. Lazar reraised Dannenmann preflop and Michael (Mike) pushed all-in. The Flop was K-Q-6, giving Michael (Mike) “The Mouth” a set of Kings. The crowd went nuts. The turn was the deuce of hearts, which brought three hearts on the board. Lazar had the Ace of hearts. Matusow had the King of hearts. The river was the Jack of hearts, giving Lazar an Ace-high flush.. On the second hand, Lazar doubled up. The crowd went wild with screaming and whistling.

5:11 p.m. All-in with Steven (Steve) Dannenmann’s A-Q vs. Brad Kondraki’s 10-10. The flop was all spades: Q-J-4. The turn was the 2h. The river was the 9 of spades and Brad Kondraki caught a four-card river flush to double up. Kondraki has $2.6M now.

5:33 p.m. Michael (Mike) Matusow raised poker pro player poker pro player andrew (Andy) Black’s big blind. On the board of J-5-6-10, poker pro player poker pro player andrew (Andy) Black bet $1M, Matusow raised to $2M, and poker pro player poker pro player andrew (Andy) Black moved all-in. Michael (Mike) counted out his chips and agonized over the call. He took a sip off of his water. “Do you want me to call?” Matusow asked. poker pro player andrew (Andy) Black shrugged. Kanter raised to $1.6M. poker pro player andrew (Andy) Black quickly went over the top for $5M more. Kanter rook forever to make a decision. He tried staring poker pro player andrew (Andy) Black down and poker pro player andrew (Andy) just laughed and stood up. Kanter took his time and folded. poker pro player andrew (Andy) Black won a $4.7M pot.

10:02 p.m. Tex Barch and Daniel Bergsdorf were all-in preflop. Tex had 10-10 and Daniel flipped over J-J. The flop was 10-Q-4 and Tex’s railbirds hooted and cheered. The turn and river were no help and Daniel Bergsdorf won $1,300,00 for 7th place.

The flop was A-10-4 with two spades and Hachem was in great shape. The turn and river were no help and Hachem doubled up. His railbirds jumped right into their catchy “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oy, oy, oy!” chant while waving the Australia flag.

10:23 p.m. On the very next hand, Scott Lazar made a “tiltish’ call and pushed all in with Q-10. poker pro player andrew (Andy) Black quickly called with pocket Jacks. The flop was 8-5-3 with two spades. The turn was a rag and the river was a King and poker pro player andrew (Andy) Black scooped the pot. Scott Lazar finished in 6th place and won $1,500,00 for his great work. That’s how tough the WSOP can be. On two hands you can lose your entire stack and all the work you did for a week gets thrown out the window.

Kanter flopped a set with pocket Kings and turned a full house. poker pro player andrew (Andy) called a huge bet and mucked after Kanter showed his K-K. Kanter has $21M an poker pro player andrew (Andy) Black dropped to $10.2M.

11:55 p.m. On a flop of 8-4-4, Tex Barch reraised all in and won a $7M from Aaron Kanter.

1:04 a.m. Insane action on the flop of 9s-6c-5c. poker pro player andrew (Andy) Back bet $1M and Steven (Steve) Dannenmann moved all-in. poker pro player andrew (Andy) Black thought for a while and called with 10-9. Steven (Steve) had A-6. The turn was a blank and the river was an unlucky ace for Black. Steven (Steve) Dannenmann rivered poker pro player andrew (Andy) Black and doubled up. Dannenmann moved into the chip lead.

1:08 a.m. poker pro player andrew (Andy) Black is in trouble with a $3.5M short stack. He moved all-in. Was it a steam bet? Was he on tilt? Black showed Ad-8d vs. Aaron Kanter’s pocket 4s. The flop was A-8-J and the crowd erupted. The Irish fans started singing. The turn was a rag and the river was another rag. poker pro player andrew (Andy) Black doubled up against Kanter. The Irish railbirds began singing as Black increased his stack to about $7M.

1:23 a.m. On a flop of K-10-7 with two flush cards, Tex Barge check raised, Aaron Kanter check reraised Tex’s check raise and Joseph (Joe) Hachem folded. Tex thought for a second and reraised. Kanter sat and thought for a long time. He stared at his chips for a few minutes and moved all-in. Tex stood up, put his hands on his hips, thought for two minutes and called. Tex had K-7 for two pair and Kanter had K-5. There was about $21M in the pot, the largest pot in the history of the WSOP. The turn was a Queen and it gave Kanter more outs. The river was a Jack and Tex Barge doubled up and moved into the chip lead.

1:55 a.m. Head up battle preflop. Joseph (Joe) “Aussie” Hachem had 7-7 and Steven (Steve) Dannenmann showed A-J. The flop was 6-9-10. The turn was a 9 and Steven (Steve) picked up a few more outs. The river was a 3 and the Aussie chant flooded the room when Hachem doubled up. He’s got about $5M.

2:02 a.m. Classic No Limit Texas Hold’em confrontation: A-K vs. 10-10. You have to win with A-K and beat A-K if you want to win a tournament. poker pro player andrew (Andy) Black pushed in with 10-10 and Steven (Steve) Dannenmann called with A-K. The flop was all rags. The turn was a King and that killed poker pro player andrew (Andy)’s chances. poker pro player andrew (Andy) looked so sad when he lost. He finished in 5th place and won $1,750,000. He looked like he was going to cry and Phil Hellmuth came over to give him some encouraging words. The crowd gave him the loudest send off so far.

2:12 a.m. Updated Chip Count:

2:27 a.m. Aaron Kanter doubled up against Tex Barch. Kanter moved all-in with A-7 and it took Tex a long time to call. He eventually did and flipped over A-Q. The flop: 10-7-7. The crowd let out a collective, “Aaaaah!” That was Kanter’s miracle flop and he held on to win despite and ace falling on the turn. He doubled up. Kanter’s stack increased to $9M and Tex slipped to $17M.

4:48a.m. Two players moved all in and woke everyone up. Aaron Kanter moved all in with A-9 and Tex Barch called with J-J. Tex’s hand held up when he caught a set on the river. Aaron Kanter took 4th place and won $2M for his hard work.

5:15 a.m. Updated Chip Count:

6:10 a.m. Blinds are $150K/$300K with a $50K ante.

6:13 a.m. All three players are all in preflop. Tex Barch had ace high. Tex Barch was eliminated in third place. Steven (Steve) Dannenmann has 7-7 and Joseph (Joe) Hachem had pocket Jacks. He won $2.5M.

Dannenmann moved all in with A-3 when an ace spied on the turn. Steven (Steve) Dannenmann won $4,500,000 for his stellar work. Joseph (Joe) Hachem won $7.5M
